Obituary

On December 29, 2018, Anne Robinson Davis died unexpectedly yet peacefully at home in Weems, Virginia at the age of 80.

Born on June 15, 1938, to Maude and Paul Robinson, Anne lived in Decatur, Alabama and married Solon Edward Davis III on February 28, 1959, in the Appleton Chapel on the grounds of Harvard University. Graduating from Wellesley College in 1960, Anne worked as an elementary school teacher in Richmond, VA. Anne then returned to school and completed a Master’s and Ph.D. at The University of Maryland-College Park. Anne worked for a number of years formulating health care policy for the state of New Jersey. In 2004, Anne retired to Virginia’s Northern Neck and settled into an active life full of friends, family and fellowship. Anne enjoying sailing, watching the annual osprey nesting, playing tennis and pickle ball, and participating in four book clubs. She also was very active at the Grace Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock, Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, Lancaster Community Library, Historic Christ Church, and Northern Neck-Middlesex Free Health Clinic. A life-long lover of research, Anne published exhaustive studies on menhaden fishing on the Chesapeake Bay and Colonial medicine.

Anne Davis is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Ed, of Weems, VA, and her sister, Paula Robinson Spraker, of Richmond, VA. Anne is also survived by her three children: Solon Edward Davis IV and his wife, Michele LaRocca of Tilghman Island, MD; Michael Stuart Davis and his wife, Marjorie Goon Davis of McLean, VA, and Anne Meredith Lamberton and her husband, Harry Clabaugh Lamberton III of Houston, TX and Chicago, IL. Anne loved her four grandchildren – Tyler and Jade Davis and Clay, Davis, and Mason Lamberton. Anne is also survived by her nephews, David, his wife, Ann Doyle Spraker, and two children, Dabney and Mary Katherine and Stephen, his wife, Kelly Dalch Spraker, and two children, Charlie and Talbot, who all reside in Richmond, VA. Anne was also loved by Brenda Thier Evans and Eric William Thier, who were comforted by the Davis family after the loss of their parents at a young age.

Anne had a quiet way about her – and hated for anyone to make a fuss over her. Her quiet energy was profound – and she will be greatly missed by her family, friends and Northern Neck community.

Dear Ed,

Chris and I were very saddened to hear that Anne passed away. I won’t ever forget her beautiful Southern drawl and her smile when we’d bump into each other at Grace or on the tennis court.

Our deepest condolences to you and your children.
