Obituary for Barri Emelie Schmidlapp Mapes (Schmidlapp)

Barri Emelie Schmidlapp Mapes passed away on June 19, 2019 in the company of her husband of 62 years at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury. Barri lived a life devoted to her family and in service to her community. She served on the boards of the Junior League of Cincinnati, Family Service of Cincinnati and the Colonial Dames - Cincinnati and Rappahannock Chapters. Barri enjoyed many years as a docent at the Cincinnati Museum Center and Historic Christ Church. Everyone will remember her welcoming smile at the many outings she coordinated at Indian Creek.
Barri is survived by her husband Gene Mapes, Sr. and her sons Gene, Jr. (Susan) and Scott (Andrea) Mapes, Cincinnati, Ohio, sister Angie (Brad) Stephens of Irvington, and sister-in-law Judy Mapes Schmidlapp. She is beloved by her grandchildren Virginia, Anne, Elisabeth and Kathryn Mapes and Mackenzie, Madison and McGuire Saffin; niece Jessica Schmidlapp Calcote and nephew J.G. Schmidlapp, IV. She was preceded in death by her father J.G. Schmidlapp, II, mother Angie Keller Wayman (Akie), step-father Dr. T. Brent Wayman, brother J.G. Schmidlapp, III and her parents-in-law John and Avis Mapes. Barri will be laid to rest with her mother and step-father at Christ Church.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 26 at 1:30pm at Grace Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to Historic Christ Church or the charity of your choice. The funeral services are being coordinated by Grace Episcopal Church and Currie Funeral Home of Kilmarnock.
