Obituary for Charles Howard Carter Jr.

Charles Howard Carter, Jr, 81, of White Stone, Virginia passed away on May 29, 2019.
He was born on July 30, 1937 in Halifax County, Virginia, son of the late Velva Estes Carter and Charles Howard Carter.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Agnes Smith Inge Carter; children, Jay Carter (Julie), Chris Carter, Stacey Elko (Mike), Owen Conway (Steve), Tom Inge, George Inge (Amy) and Wallace Inge (Kristie);grandchildren, Melissa, Catherine, Sarah, Benjamin, Owen, Beatrice, Thomas, Wyatt, Grace, Harrison, Maggie, Charles "Tommy", and Webb; 4 great grandchildren; and brother, Bill William Carter (Gladys). He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan F. Carter, who passed away in 1989 and his sister, Betty Carter Billingsley.

Charlie served briefly in the Army after graduating from the University of Richmond. He worked for Universal Leaf Tobacco Company for 40 years where he was elected Assistant Treasurer on May 22, 1970 and Vice President on February 7, 1985. Charlie also served on the Board of Directors of Limbe Leaf of South Africa and the Board of Zimbabwe Leaf Tobacco Co. He retired March 26, 2001.

In retirement, Charlie and Agnes moved to the Northern Neck on Tabbs Creek. He served there for many years as treasurer of the Tabbs Creek Civic Association where he was blessed with many friends. While at his home "Riverwood", he enjoyed hosting friends and making a "Charlie" Breakfast for overnight guests. He loved his children and grandchildren, his dogs, Chessie and Birdie, yardwork, gardening, chocolate pie and bourbon. Not always in that order.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Grace Episcopal Church, Kilmarnock, Va. A reception will follow at the church. A burial service will be held 3:00 p. m. at Westhampton Memorial Park.
