Obituary for David Clark Crowther

David Clark Crowther, 74, died Saturday, November 9, 2019.

David was born to Robert E. Crowther, Jr. and Ruth Mitchell Crowther on August 20, 1945. He grew up in Kilmarnock, attended Lancaster County Public Schools, and graduated from Randolph Macon Academy in 1963. After graduating from Old Dominion University, David returned to Kilmarnock in 1969 to work at the family business, Crowther Ford Sales, Inc. until he retired in 2008.

He always had a project that he was working on at home, but the project was also a good excuse to buy more tools. David loved talking about current events, and he had always “just read an article” or seen “something on television” that supported his opinion. David loved everything about golf. He spent many hours on the golf course, both watching his daughter’s tournaments and playing his own rounds. He was known by his friends for his one-liners, as well as his gratitude towards others. He lived his life the way he played golf, with determination, having fun in the process.

He was a member of White Stone Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and worked at the church food pantry.

David is survived by his wife and best friend of 48 years, Harriet; daughter Carter Bender; son-in-law, Jon; grandchildren, Lauren and John David; brothers, Randy Crowther and Steve Crowther (Joan); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Bobby Crowther.

A visitation will be held from 5-7pm on November 21, 2019 at Currie Funeral Home and a memorial service at White Stone Baptist Church on November 22, 2019 at 11am. Memorial contributions may be made to White Stone Baptist Church Food Pantry at P.O. Box 45, White Stone, VA 22578.
