Obituary for Helen Berry Kizer (Berry)

Helen Berry Kizer,100, of Lancaster, Virginia went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 20, 2018. She was born in Portsmouth, Va. on February 15, 1918 to Pearl and Aumon Berry. Helen was a resident of Norfolk, Va.; Bath, NC; Richmond, Va. and Lancaster, Va. She was a 1935 graduate of Bath High School and thereafter a student at Norfolk Business College. Helen retired as an executive secretary for the Sears and Roebuck Group in Richmond. In 1937 she married Franklin D. Kizer. They had 72 years of adventures together. They retired to the location of their dreams on the Corrotoman “Rivah” in Lancaster County, Va. She was active in the order of the Eastern Star, an avid bridge player, friend to many, and devoted to Saint Mary’s White Chapel Episcopal Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother “Hon” and great grandmother. Helen used her many creative talents in all she did. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Bill Berry. She is survived by her daughters, Ann Spain (Melvin) and Marion Renne (Merlin), six grandchildren, Laurie Sweeney (Dale), Melissa Byrne (Brendan), Michelle Renne, Drew Spain (Ellen), Karl Renne (Jennifer) and Paige Flanagan (David) and eight great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s White Chapel, Lancaster County, Va. on December 23, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Following the service a reception will be held at the Parish Hall.
