Obituary for Mildred Hart Martin

Mildred Hart Martin passed away peacefully on December 14, 2018, surrounded with love by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert R. Martin, parents Jesse James and Starkie A. Hart, sisters Frances H. Hatfield and Nell H. Alexander, and brothers James A. Hart and William F. Hart. She is survived by her brother Robert R. Hart of Charlottesville, son R. Ramsey and his wife Rebekah Martin of Richmond, daughter Margaret (Peggy) and her husband Lt Col (Ret) Joseph Noland of Hampton, and granddaughter Ashley Martin of Orlando, FL.

Born in Goldsboro, NC on March 10, 1927, Mildred grew up in Franklin and Emporia, VA before moving to Suffolk, VA, where she met her future husband Robert R. Martin. She worked for American Bank and Trust Co. with her sister Frances, and was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mildred truly was a selfless individual, always putting others first. She loved socializing with friends and family, and had the unique ability to become friends with strangers in a matter of minutes. When she smiled, there was a sparkle in her eyes that lit up the room. Full of joy, Mildred was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones.

The family wishes to thank the 5th floor staff of doctors and nurses at Chippenham Hospital and James River Hospice for their compassionate care.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, December 19th at White Stone United Methodist Church beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by the service at 12:00 PM. Following the service will be a reception at Fellowship Hall. After the reception, family and guests will depart for interment at Historic Christ Church in Weems, VA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
