Obituary

Norman Leroy Faulkner celebrated his 91st birthday and the holidays with his wife, children and grandchildren before passing peacefully at his home in White Stone on December 28, 2019.

He was born on December 20,1928 in Erie, PA, a son of Earl C. and Bertha V. Fuller Faulkner, the youngest of four children.

Norm graduated from Academy High School in 1946 and enlisted in the Marine Corp, at the age of seventeen, where he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands and, as he liked to say, honed his skills playing baseball for his regiment’s team. Following his discharge from the military, Norm attended Penn State University for two years, after which he gained employment in the insurance industry and married his childhood sweetheart, Lois Ardell Nagle. Norm began his career as a salesperson with Tenneco Oil Company in 1958. He advanced through numerous promotions until he reached Executive Vice President over Wholesale in the Houston Headquarters. Upon retiring from Tenneco in 1984, Norm and Lois moved to White Stone, Va., at which time he purchased George Noblett Oil Company. He considered this last chapter of professional life his most rewarding as he worked with his sons expanding the petroleum and propane business, building Virginia Biodiesel, being involved in the community through various organizations and enjoying life in the Northern Neck.

Norm and Lois knew from early on they wished to retire on the Chesapeake Bay. They discovered the Northern Neck and purchased a home on the Rappahannock River where they loved watching the watermen fish their nets in the breaking dawn, seeing the Miss Ann steam down river on her evening cocktail cruises, playing with their children and grandchildren and great grandchildren in the river and pool, and enjoying a glass of wine as the sunset burned brilliant in the western sky. Like osprey that mate for life, Norm and Lois were devoted to one another since teenagers and were often seen walking hand in hand down Crab Point.

Norm was predeceased by his son, Douglas E. Faulkner, and is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Lois Nagle Faulkner of White Stone, Va.; his son, Norman F. Faulkner (Michele) of White Stone, Va.; two daughters, Susan F. Tempest (Michael) of White Stone, Va. and Karen F. Wise (David) of Richmond, Va.; his daughter in law, Michele D. Faulkner of Irvington, Va.; his grandchildren, Lindsey George (Justin), Lisa Faulkner, Michael Faulkner (Chrissy), Britton Gendell (Adam), Ryan Faulkner (Leisa), Alec Faulkner, Harrison Tempest, Chandler Tempest, Fuller Wise, Emory Wise, and Claire Wise; three great grandchildren, Romalo Gendell, Noah Gendell, Sage Gendell, and many nieces and nephews.

Norm’s family want to thank Djenabou Yattara, Riverside Hospice, RWC At Home Care, and the multiple caregivers that assisted him through these last years of his life.

The Faulkner Family invite friends and family to a Service and Celebration of Life to be held at Indian Creek Country Club on January 19th beginning at 3 pm. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside Hospice or the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Dear Faulkner Family and Aunt Lois Faulkner,
I am very sorry to hear about your husband and my uncle Norm Faulkner who was born on December 20th 1928
and pass away on December 28th 2019 at the age of 91 years old and uncle Norm lived a good life and celebrated
his birthday and Christmas Day with his family before he pass away at his house with his family by his side and
then Doris Nelson was his sister and she had pass away on November 17th 2016 and Mary Jo Nelson had called
my sister in law Dave's wife Karen Yaple and told her that Doris had fell at the house on Alleghany and broke her hip
and then she had a stroke and took to Saint Mary's Nursing Home where she had pass away on November 17th 2016
and then I live at Schmid Towers at 153 East 6th Street Apartment 705 South Unit 133 Erie Pa 16501 because before I moved
into Schmid Towers on August 1st 2004 my parents Harry & Donna Yaple were moved to Sunrise Assisted Living Nursing
Home on October 13th 2003 because my mother Donna Yaple had fell at the house at 1618 Church Street and when I
came back from the Barber Center back to the house she was on the living room floor all day and my father was still
in bed and then when he got up to answer the front door to get the meals on wheels dinners from Hamot Hospital
then he by past her on the way to the kitchen and never gave her lunch and then he took his meals on wheels lunch
and by past her on his way to the kitchen and never fed her so then when I got home from the Barber Center and
it was a good thing that I had the keys to the house and the Lift dropped me off by the driveway and I got off the
Lift and unlocked the door and my mother was on the living floor all day and I said where's Dad and she said that
he was still in bed so I had to call Dave & Karen & Brian to come to the house and pick her up off the living floor
and put her back in the living room chair because I couldn't lift her she was dead weight so Dave & Karen & Brian
came to the house to check up on her and then Karen took her blood pressure and her pulse and her vital signs
at the house and she gave her cookies in the house and then Dave & Karen & Brian took to Saint Vincent Hospital
to check her out and then they took her to Sunrise Assisted Living Nursing Home and my father Harry Yaple was at the house
on Church Street with me and then my father didn't know where my mother was so he goes down to my nieces house Debbie's
house at 1245 West 54th Street to try and find my mother Donna Yaple and then he fell in front Debbie's house and broke his glasses and mess up his forehead and his nose so Dave and Karen took him to Hamot Hospital to check him out and then they
brought him home and Dave and I had make sure he was all right so Dave had to stay all night at our house on Church Street
till Dave & Karen decided to move him to Sunrise Assisted Living Nursing Home by the Bayfront on October 13th 2003 and
then Dave & Karen and my staff from Supportive Living Services decided to move me into Schmid Towers on August 1st 2004
because the night before I was getting ready for bed after I took a shower and Karen came to our house to check on me and
then she said that my father had come down with the flu and that they were not going to celebrate my mothers birthday so
I have been at Schmid Towers for sixteen years on August 1st 2020 and I still like living there because when I move into
Schmid Towers my mother and father was at Sunrise Assisted Living Nursing Home and then the last time I seen my mother
was at Dave's House for Thanksgiving Dinner and then on December 24th 2004 on Christmas Eve in the afternoon my mother
pass away in her sleep at 4:30 in the afternoon and then on Christmas Day the family had to do the funeral arrangements
but we still had Christmas Day and then Karen and I had to take my father's Christmas gifts up to Forest View Nursing Home
and told him what happened to my mother and then my father pass away on May 26th 2005 and I would like to send my
deepest condolences and deepest sympathy's to Lois Faulkner and Susan and Karen and Norman Faulkner Junior because
we all grew up together when Dave and I was little and had picnics with Bill and June Faulkner at their house on West Lake Road.

Love Linda Yaple.
