Garry J. Luckham was born 12-24-1952 and left this earthly life on 06-08-2019.
Garry enjoyed life, music, family, friends and a little wine every now and then. A big man with hands that made lovely masterpieces. Many in the community possess some of his beautiful creations. He was a poet and artist, a lover of the living. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Sam; brother, Maurice and his fiancé Linda Gaskins; his aunt, Barbara Tucker and her children; his uncle, Hugh Brown; his niece Allison Woolard and Scott, their four children; Emma, Noah, Zoey and Abbey; and his niece, Tiffany Luckham and John Spring and their daughter, Dixie Anne Spring along with many friends and acquaintances. A graveside service will be held at Irvington United Methodist Church on June 12, 2019 at 2:00 p. m. , followed by a celebration of life at the fellowship hall.

My deepest sympathies to you, Sam and the rest of the family. While I didn’t know Garry that well, I recall his gentleness of spirit and his larger than life presence. I remember talking to him and you once about bringing back the front porch party tradition to Irvington, a tradition that he told me he recalled as a boy, was a regular practice in our little village. I hope he’s having that front porch party now in Heaven and that he’s saving some chairs for us! May he rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Sam.

Garry and Sam welcomed me into their lives about 15 years..I was a young 20 something year old and quickly became their adopted daughter! I would come and spend the night often where Garry would always cook delicious meals..followed by great music and wine. I will forever remember memories like this with Garry and him traveling to Richmond with Sam to attend my college graduation from VCU! This is not goodbye..this is see you later. Xoxo

Words will come later...What? Me, at a loss for words? The actor, the insecure comedian... the one with a fast, witty quip. Yes me. Garry would understand. Our friendship developed with a connection of laughter, with satire and theatricality, with the love of song, with angry politics and with such a shared passion for what we want our world to be and to become. No words now... Wait, what was all that stuff above? Hah! I've got a million of 'em! And a million memories with the big guy! Loved you much and you will never leave me, Daddy-G! You hear me? You will never leave! Sleep time now. See you later today buddy

Not too long after we purchased an Irvington home, we became involved with a band of friends like no other!with Garry and Same at the helm I didn’t think Bob and I could enjoy so much Love , Laughter and Wine. The shock of Garry’s passing is surreal and I know especially for you, Sam. Our friendship and shenanigans will always be a part of my story and a whole chapter belongs to Garry and Sam. Peace be with you. Karen B
